The Chevy Equinox has proven to be one of the most popular crossover SUVs in the past 15 years. As you begin searching for them, you’ll find numerous models from different years and several trim levels. Starting off as a midsize SUV in 2004, the Chevy Equinox has had three generations so far, with a refreshed version of the third-generation scheduled for 2021 that has been delayed due to the pandemic.

This guide is for those who’re interested in the Chevy Equinox but wish to save themselves some bucks by not buying it brand new. Let us walk you through the three generations before you buy a used Chevrolet Equinox in New Braunfels, TX.

First-Generation Chevrolet Equinox

The first Chevy Equinox made its debut in a 2003 Detroit Auto Show, but it wasn’t until 2005 that it was manufactured and finally introduced in the industry. It was marketed as a midsize SUV with an overall length of 188.8 inches, 68.3 inches in height, 71.4 inches in width, and around 112.5 inches of wheelbase. Even though production for this generation ceased in 2009, you’ll still find the first-generation used Chevy Equinox at dealerships in New Braunfels. Just because they’re older doesn’t mean you should completely abandon them. For a very affordable price, you’ll only need to give up a few high-end conveniences.

The first-generation Chevy Equinox offers two engine options, the second of which was introduced in 2008. They include the 3.4-liter V6 that produced 185-horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque and 3.6-liter V6 engine that generated 264-horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. Either of these could be mated with a five- or six-speed automatic transmission.

Interestingly, the 3.6-liter engine that came in 2008 brought with it an athletic trim level referred to as the Sport. With these wheels, you could accelerate to 60 miles per hour in only seven seconds, which is quite impressive for an SUV. For optimized performance, the overall height of this model was lower. Also, its chrome wheels measuring 18 inches possessed a unique five-spoke design.

The model did offer some optional features such as a DVD entertainment system, sunroof, navigation system, and heated leather seats. Not to forget the OnStar telematics system that came standard with all trims. This safety technology that’s still used in modern vehicles helps you find stolen or lost vehicles and notifies emergency services in the event of an accident.

Second-Generation Chevy Equinox in New Braunfels

Numerous changes were made to the Chevy Equinox between 2010 and 2017, the era of second generation. When you explore the used car lot, you’ll notice that most models you encounter belong to this generation. Introduced in the 2009 North American International Auto Show, the second-generation Equinox in New Braunfels retained its unibody structure but the interior was upgraded.

You have three engine options for second-generation Chevy Equinox, including: 2.4-liter I4 motor that generated 182-horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque, 3-liter V6 that produced 264-horsepower and 222 lb-ft of torque, 3.6-liter V6 that offered 301-horsepower and 272 lb-ft of torque. Each of these engines came with front-wheel-drive and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Third-Generation Chevy Equinox

If you’re interested in newer used Chevy Equinox in New Braunfels, you should be looking for models between 2017 and 2019. This generation marked a number of changes, the most notable one being the all-new trio of powertrains, each of which would come with a six- or nine-speed automatic transmission. These included: 1.5-liter I4 capable of 170-horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque, Turbocharged 2-liter I4 motor making 252-horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, Turbodiesel 1.6-L I4 that promised 137-horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque.

Eight trim levels were unveiled in 2018. A keyless entry, six-speaker stereo system, rearview camera, push-button start and a 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, along with a seven-inch touchscreen monitor displaying the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment interface, and integrations with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot were all standard features. Apart from these, the third-generation Chevy Equinox also came with modern safety features such as emergency braking, surround-view camera system, and forward collision warning.
